O sms2blog para quem não conhece é provavelmente o primeiro aplicativo brasileiro que permitiu postagens de mensagens via SMS diretamente no Twitter. Segundo o Luis Leão, hoje a quantidade de mensagens trafegadas pelo sistema é de aproximadamente 1000 por dia. Mas o serviço enfrenta um grande desafio que é sobreviver a um crescimento sem receita.
O sms2blog hoje recebe mensagens dos seus usuários através de um sistema desenvolvido pelo próprio Luis Leão. O volume de mensagens é razoável de forma que seria de interesse das operadoras de celular apoiar de alguma forma o sms2blog aproveitando também que o Twitter está crescendo fortemente no Brasil depois que virou “queridinha” da grande mídia.
Mas conversas com operadoras não evoluem. Elas redirecionam o interesse para as integradoras, empresas que fazem o intermédio entre quem quer usar aplicações com SMS e as operadoras. Mas as integradoras só aceitam parceiros grandes ou algum outro critério obscuro.
O sms2blog tem potencial grande de tornar-se um dos principais meios de se enviar mensagens para o Twitter pois a grande maioria dos brasileiros não dispõe de internet no celular. Seria a forma da massa poder atualizar o Twitter de qualquer lugar.
Se gerenciado da forma correta um acordo entre o sms2blog e as operadoras seria vantajoso para ambas as partes e para os novos usuários do microblog. Só para refrescar a memória, certa vez defendi que um modelo de negócios atrelado ao Twitter deveria passar pelas operadoras de celular.
Não seria a hora das integradoras e operadoras apostarem na cauda longa do SMS e diminuir as barreiras de entrada para pequenas aplicações?

De fato as integradoras só olham para projetos grandes e com potencial de muita escala, e esse potencial eles mensuram não pela qualidade da idéia, mas por quanto investimento de mídia os donos do serviço se comprometem a colocar.
Como empresa desenvolvedora da área, também já sofremos essa limitação com nossas idéias, mas a questão tem uma lógica. Para a integradora (e operadoras), fazer o setup de um serviço que gera mil SMS/dia dá o mesmo trabalho do que um serviço que gera um milhão SMS/dia.
Só queria fazer uma correção na seguinte afirmação sua: “a grande maioria dos brasileiros não dispõe de internet no celular”.
Na verdade, cerca de 70% da base de celulares do Brasil possui capacidade de acessar a Internet móvel, e apesar do tráfego ainda ser caro aqui, se o serviço for bem projetado (via mobile site ou aplicativo), dá para deixar essa interação bem barata para o usuário.
Para citar um exemplo, no caso do nosso mKut, para mandar um scrap para um amigo o usuário gasta na média 4 centavos usando o aplicativo. Isso no final acaba refletindo na retenção e viralização. No caso do mKut, temos mais de 2 milhões de acessos por mês pelo celular, muito deles vindo de usuários de classe C e D.

Achei a iniciativa do cara que criou esse ‘aplicativo’ muito boa. Facilita, e é mais barato pra alimenta o vicio de ‘twittar’. (a tarifa do número internacional do twtter custa umas 3 vezes mais)

Eu gosto do serviço e o uso faz tempo. Dependendo do dia principalmente nos sábados e domingos a mensagem demora chegar ou não chega, mas como relatado no texto para um serviço sem receita o funcionamento está ótimo.

Que eu saiba, o lembreto da Aorta tem um plano de negócios bem diferente e já começou focado em receita.
Há quem compre a idéia, mas eu não utilizaria o lembreto. Porque eu pagaria para receber as twitadas dos meus contatos?
Se não for o próximo Big Brother ninguém quer fazer, é normal. No Brasil as operadoras e integradoras não tem visão de novos negócios e também não querem pois acreditam ser “alimentar competição” ao invés de “novos negõcios”

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.
